Open Space Planning

Open Space planning is essential in Chester County given that we have federal, state, county and local parks, along with protected farmland and property protected by non-profit land trusts. The Planning Commission serves as a clearinghouse, providing countywide information so that various public and private land preservation groups can work in cooperation. Staff also works on implementing and updating the recommendations of the County's open space plan, Linking Landscapes. Most of our Open Space information is in PDF format. To download Adobe Acrobat Reader please visit the Adobe site.

    Linking Landscapes

On February 26, 2002, the Chester County Board of Commissioners adopted Linking Landscapes: A Plan for the Protected Open Space Network in Chester County, PA as the open space element of the Chester County comprehensive plan.  In October, 2002, the Pennsylvania Planning Association awarded the plan with its 2002 Outstanding Planning Award for a Special Community Initiative.

Copies of the entire document are available for review at each municipal office in Chester County, at the Chester County Planning Commission (CCPC) office, and at each of the 17 County public libraries.  Unbound paper copies on three-hole punch paper can be purchased for $25 at the CCPC office.  A compact disc version also is available for sale at $10.  To get more information on a discount for government agencies or to get the document by mail, contact the CCPC at 610-344-6285.

Linking Landscapes is over 750 pages long and is too large to be posted in a format that can be easily downloaded by most users.  For this reason, the CCPC is posting the two-page abstract and the 12-page executive summary for Linking Landscapes in PDF format.  A downloadable 20-page summary brochure also is available which shows many of the key maps from the plan.
